Charleston City Paper and Columbia Free Times picked up several awards at the South Carolina Press Association Awards over the weekend.

City Paper‘s website charlestoncitypaper.com was named as the best in its class, and news editor Greg Hambrick took first place in the Profile Feature Writing category. The publication also won prizes in the Beat Reporting, News Feature Writing, Online Video, and Special Edition categories.

Free Times contributor Mary Bentz Gilkerson took the top prize in the Critical Writing category, while graphic designer Joey Ayer won best Mixed Media Illustration. Free Times was also honored in the Column Writing, Education Reporting, Enterprise Reporting, Online Column Writing, Profile Feature Writing and Reporting-in-Depth categories.
