Register Now for the 2016 AAN Convention in Austin

July 6 - 9, 2016 - Westin Downtown Austin

Registration is now open for the 2016 AAN Convention in Austin, Texas, the alt news industry’s largest gathering of the year. Alt news professionals from across the U.S. and Canada will come together to share success stories, swap information on the latest trends, and chart the future of the independent media industry.

The festivities will take place at the Westin Downtown, which is one of the premiere downtown Austin hotels, located just one block from the 6th Street Entertainment District.

With nearly 30 years of experience putting on SXSW, conference host Austin Chronicle is looking forward to throwing a party for its AAN colleagues.

“The Austin Chronicle is very excited about hosting the AAN Convention deep in the heart of Texas,” said Louis Black and Nick Barbaro, co-editors and co-publishers of the Chronicle. “We want to welcome the AAN Convention regulars and first time attendees alike. We’ll provide more social opportunities for folks to get to know each other, as well as special events for everyone. And to that end, we’ve extended the time frame a bit, and are hoping at least some of you can join us for a welcome party Wednesday evening on through the Saturday night club crawl.”

Events will kick off 5 p.m. on Wednesday with an open house at the Austin Chronicle office followed by welcome cocktails at Louis Black’s home. The next three days will be packed with learning and networking. This year’s program will include management basics training for both publishers and editors, a multimedia sales training afternoon, and an intensive design bootcamp by the Society of Publication Designers (SPD).

The member registration rate is $395/person for up to three staff members per publication, and additional registrations are only $50/person when a publication brings more than three people. Early registration ends on June 10.

“There’s not another conference or convention in the country that I know of that consistently provides the level of quality speakers and programming for under $400,” said AAN President and Charleston City Paper Advertising Director Blair Barna. “You’ll easily pay two to three times that amount at most other conferences in the worlds of advertising, marketing, media and B2B sales.”

The associate member registration rate is $495/person, and the non-member registration rate is $995/person.

WestinAustin2The AAN group rate at the Westin Downtown is $179/night for a single or double. Use this link to reserve at the AAN discount. Rooms must be booked by June 10 in order to receive the group rate.

“AAN Austin will be open, enlightening and entertaining for everyone,” said Louis Black and Nick Barbaro. “We’d like as many of you on board here in Austin with us as possible!”
