Will Swaim Named Publisher of LA CityBeat

Will Swaim has been named publisher of LA CityBeat and New Angeles Magazine, effective Nov. 10.

Swaim was most recently founding editor and publisher of The District Weekly, the first alternative weekly serving Long Beach, Calif. Before that, he was founding editor, and then publisher, of OC Weekly, the Orange County, Calif., newspaper launched by the Village Voice and LA Weekly in 1995. OC Weekly went on to become one of the most successful start-ups in the history of the alternative newsweekly industry.

“We are delighted to have Will on board to run LA CityBeat and New Angeles,” said Bruce Bolkin, president of Southland Publishing, the parent company.

“He is one of the premier talents in our industry, and we look forward to significant growth on both the editorial and business sides.”

LA CityBeat and New Angeles are terrific publications,” Swaim said. “I’m thrilled to have this chance to use what I’ve learned in Orange County and Long Beach to help them reach their enormous potential.”

Southland Publishing owns numerous Southern California publications, including LA CityBeat, Pasadena Weekly, San Diego CityBeat, Ventura County Reporter, and Inland Empire Weekly.
