Ad Awards Finalists Announced

LA Weekly Leads the Pack with 10 Finalists.

Who needs those fancy Clio Awards anyway? Imagine ’99: AAN’s Second Annual Advertising and Marketing Awards Contest highlights the best and brightest ad persons in the alternative news industry.

Thirty papers submitted 218 entries spanning sixteen categories. In late March, a panel of experts (two designers, one copywriter and a media director) judged the pool of contestants. They picked forty-six finalists representing nineteen papers. LA Weekly had the most finalists, with ten entries receiving prizes. Worcestor Magazine saw six of its ads named as finalists, and Willamette Week was a close third with five. All that remains now is announcing the winners.

That will take place May 27 at the AAN Convention’s Advertising and Marketing Awards Luncheon in Memphis. Between one and four awards will be given out in each category at the event, to be emceed by Ward Archer, president and CEO of Archer/Malmo, Memphis’ largest ad agency.

Tickets for the luncheon are $30 and can be purchased through AAN’s Washington, DC office. To reserve tickets, contact Debra Silvestrin, AAN’s Director of Operations and Special Projects at 202/822-1955 or via email at debras@intr.net.
