Gambit‘s 2013 Best of New Orleans issue hits the streets this week featuring a cover that comes to life when scanned using the free Layar app:

To film the cover, Solomon Group worked with Baton Rouge’s Contrast Films. Contrast Films shot the piece on a RED EPIC camera due to its high resolution sensor and compact size.In order to match the aspect ratio of the print cover (think portrait vs. landscape), the entire video was shot with the camera on its side. There was also the creative and technical challenge of crafting a short video with a circular story, as the piece had to end the same way it began in order to convey the illusion of a cover that comes to life.
