Father’s Day BBQ – Opening Reception: June 19th, 1:00 PM WHO: Random Lengths News, the Harbor Area’s only locally owned and operated independent newspaper, presents an exhibition of illustration, cartoons and photography gleaned from its pages over the past 25 years. The images reflect the history and evolution of the Harbor Area, published in Random Lengths News – chronicling the people, places and concerns, as recalled in images from the past quarter century.
WHAT: Collective Memory: A Community in Images will be exhibited at The Downstairs Gallery at Angels Gate Cultural Center and will include photographs by Slobodan Dimitrov, David Bacon, and Victor Carvellas, original illustration by James Preston Allen and Suzanne Matsumiya, along with cartoons by Andy Singer, Matt Wuerker, Ann Cleaves and Tom Tomorrow.
Most of these images have appeared in Random Lengths News over the years. Some images culled from the newspaper’s photo archives reflect aspects of the Harbor Area never before seen.
The show offers an original perspective on the cyclical nature of global, national and local issues that have filled the pages of Random Lengths News over the years. While curating the exhibit, Associate RLN Publisher, Suzanne Matsumiya and Editorial Assistant, Rod Sanborn have unearthed never before seen Charles Bukowski photographs and letters.
Random Lengths News invites the public to attend the opening reception and Father’s Day BBQ for Collective Memory on Sunday June 19th, 1:00 – 4:00 PM. Nationally syndicated cartoonist, Andy Singer will be signing copies of his book “Attitude: Andy Singer.”
