Miami New Times, Jackson Free Press and The Memphis Flyer each received first-place Green Eyeshade awards from the SPJ southeastern division on Friday.
Miami New Times was named Best of Division for “Rotten to the Core: An investigation of the John M. McKay
scholarship program,” by Gus Garcia-Roberts and the paper picked up nine additional first-place awards in other categories.
Valerie Wells and Donna Ladd of the Jackson Free Press each received first-place nods for Feature Writing and Serious Commentary respectively, and The Memphis Flyer‘s Chris Herrington took first in the Criticism category.
Birmingham’s Black & White and New Times Broward-Palm Beach also picked up awards.
