San Jose-based Metro Newspapers publishes Good Times Santa Cruz, Metro Silicon Valley, and North Bay Bohemian.
Metro Pulse began publishing in 1991 and was acquired by Scripps subsidiary Knoxville News Sentinel Media Group in 2007.
The new company will maintain the Metro Times name. Owner and publisher of Real Detroit Weekly, John Badanjek, will serve as president of events of the newly formed media company alongside Chris Keating, publisher of the Metro Times.
Detroit Metro Times has hired Valerie Vande Panne as Editor-in-Chief.
Santa Cruz Weekly will be merged with Good Times. The deal also includes three daily newspapers.
The strategic plan also is to increase revenue at the newspaper by bolstering its online presence and possibly adding new Metro Times-branded events.
The purchase includes Cleveland Scene, Detroit Metro Times, Orlando Weekly and San Antonio Current as well as their associated websites and events.

Sarah Klein, a former culture editor at Metro Times in Detroit was involved in a fatal car accident on Sunday while traveling with her husband south of San Francisco. Klein was 36 years old.
