Two of the Three New Times Shamrock Papers Among the Additions.
Albuquerque’s Weekly Alibi and two former Alternative Media Inc. papers–Orlando Weekly and the San Antonio Current –have joined The Ruxton Group, it was announced April 1. With the three new additions, Ruxton now represents 24 alternative newsweeklies with a collective weekly circulation of more than 2 million papers.
“Weekly Alibi is giddy to have The Ruxton Group represent our national advertising interests,” Publisher Christopher Johnson said in a press release issued last week by Ruxton. “We have always admired and enjoyed the Ruxton newspapers and are overjoyed at the opportunity to lend our own enthusiasm and expertise to an already successful newspaper collective.”
Ruxton’s annexation of Orlando and San Antonio is hardly a surprise. The two papers, along with Detroit’s Metro Times, were purchased earlier this year by Times Shamrock, which owns long-time Ruxton member Baltimore City Paper.
“We are happy to have joined forces with Ruxton, as our sister paper in Baltimore has seen much success with the agency over the past years,” said City Paper Publisher Don Farley in the Ruxton press release. “Orlando and San Antonio, along with Baltimore, are top 30 markets and look forward to a long relationship with The Ruxton Group.”
Metro Times remains a member of the Alternative Weekly Network (AWN), according to AWN officials.
