Just four weeks into her tenure at YES! Weekly, creative assistant Jordan Grace Owens has won the Greenhill Center for NC Art’s contest to design the official poster for the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, to be held at the Greensboro Coliseum Jan. 22-30.

Her piece, “Skating Lady,” won out over more than a hundred contestants and 21 semi-finalists from across the state.

“It’s a mixed-media piece,” she said. “Paint and ink, with some collage on paper. I used gold and silver leaf for accents.

“I wanted it to show the elegance and grace of the sport and also the feeling of victory.”

She is also the recipient of $3,000 in prize money.

“I’m going to invest in a new computer,” she said.

Owens is a graduate of the UNC School of the Arts High School and Guilford Technical Community College. Her work is displayed in galleries across the Piedmont Triad and at www.jordangrace.com.
