Biography

Seven Days is a lively mix of local arts, news and opinion that examines and celebrates life in Vermont — “the New Yorker of the North,” as one editorial contest judge dubbed it. The newspaper and its digital channels links a community of roughly 100,000 educated, active readers in urban, suburban and rural areas within an hour and a half of supremely “livable” metro Burlington. More than 90 percent have attended college. Weekly, audited distribution extends to several ski areas and college campuses including Middlebury College and the University of Vermont. Founded by two arts editors in 1995, Seven Days specializes in cultural coverage, both in print and online, but it has also become one of the state’s leading sources of local news. A joint 2019 investigation with Vermont Public Radio into state-regulated eldercare facilities — complete with a custom-built public-records database — won AAN’s top prize for innovation, as well as a national Edward R. Murrow award for investigative reporting. In 2020, the New England Newspaper and Press Association named Seven Days a New England Newspaper of the Year.
