FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 6, 2003

OKLAHOMA CITY ? Oklahoma Gazette launches its first cover-to-cover redesign Feb. 6, 2003, giving the metro independent newsweekly a clean, fresh look.

Oklahoma Gazette redesigned its paper to ease readability and cater to reader interest as determined by personal interviews and focus groups over the past two years.

he Oklahoma Gazette has a new horizontal flag on the cover and teasers to draw readers to the stories inside. The Gazette has also been divided into three separate sections — News, Life, and Classifieds.

This redesign highlights and enforces the importance of Oklahoma Gazette’s mission to stimulate, analyze, expose and recognize conditions affecting Oklahoma residents? quality of life.

News stories are clarified by headings such as Politics, Environment, Business, and Education, among others. This assists the reader in deciding which stories are of interest. The news will also feature larger photos, pull quotes, sidebars and sub-headings, creating multiple points of entry for the reader.

The recently added Life section will include “Hey, Do This,” a two-page spread in which Oklahoma Gazette endorses activities and events citywide. All arts and entertainment listings in the Life section will be arranged chronologically adjacent to the feature to which they belong, and the Life features are grouped together according to reader interest.

Life also contains the well-known food feature, restaurant review, Bite Size, and Smag 7, all written by staff writer, Carol Smaglinski. Following the food section will be Theater, Art, Book Review, Sports and Television.

Staff writer George Lang’s music column Noise and his CD reviews will be situated next to the live music listings just before Film, which also has a new format.

Oklahoma Gazette Classifieds will now showcase four articles each week in the Employment, Automotive, Real Estate and Health & Wellness sections, some written by industry experts and some written by regular readers. Oklahoma Gazette has also hired a new photographer from the Associated Press and will feature more and better photography in all areas.

Oklahoma Gazette’s first issue published Oct. 15, 1979 and has since become known as the “Arts and Entertainment Authority” of Oklahoma City.
