Sacramento News & Review founding editor Melinda Welsh is stepping down from her post, and to help find a replacement, her staff has put together the “Top 10 Reasons to be Editor-in-Chief.”

Reason #5 involves a ping-pong table.

Melinda has been with the News & Review since 1989, for most of that time she
served as editor-in-chief. She hopes to continue to write for the paper on
occasion. Under her leadership, SN&R won dozens of statewide awards, including
first place for General Excellence on several occasions, and made a huge impact
in the Sacramento community.

In 2007, Melinda led 53 alternative weeklies across the country in a joint
cover project — organized in concert with AAN — to mark the 10-year anniversary of the Kyoto Accord, the first international attempt to get the world’s countries working together to halt climate change.

More recently she directed a foundation-funded project, working in conjunction
with other California alt-weeklies, that illuminated California’s low
rate of participation in the CalFresh (Food Stamps) program.
