Contest rewards the best in alternative journalism
The Association of Alternative Newsweeklies announces the call for entries in the 2002 Alternative Newsweekly Awards, the seventh since the contest was launched in 1996.
The Alternative Newsweekly Awards recognize superior journalism and graphic design among the 122 AAN member papers, which include alternative newsweeklies across the United States and Canada.
The deadline for entries is Feb. 1, 2002. Entries must be received in the AAN office by that date. There will be no extensions. For complete rules, click here, and for an entry form, click here.
This year’s Wild-card Category is health care. Each year a wild-card category is chosen at random from suggestions made by the editorial committee. This year one other change has been made to the 2001 categories-the news-writing categories have been divided into News Feature, for stories or series longer than 1,500 words, and News Story, for stories 1,500 words or less. The awards will be presented May 30 at the 2002 Alternative Newsweekly Awards luncheon at the AAN Annual Convention in Madison, Wis.
