The 2013 AAN Digital Conference kicks off Thursday in San Francisco, bringing together alt-weekly managers and staffers from across the continent to meet with innovative digital entrepreneurs and other creative minds from Silicon Valley and beyond.
Sessions will kick into high gear right away, with deep dives into mobile strategy with digital marketing expert Tina Barnes, a survey of the tablet universe with journalist David Weir and monetization pro Erik Lundberg, and a Start-Up Showcase featuring panelists Dave Cohn (Circa), Kat Topaz (Storycode), and Lindsay Watt (Placeling).
This year’s conference moves beyond your typical “the internet has changed the news industry” fare. We all know that the mobile, multi-platform consumption of news is here to stay. So how do we capitalize on that? How do we deliver a better news experience for our tech-savvy, on-the-go audience? And where are the untapped revenue opportunities?
The 2013 AAN Digital Conference is designed to deliver concrete solutions and information that can be put to use right away.
By the time festivities wrap up on Saturday afternoon, attendees will hear from Brewster Kahle — who developed the internet’s first publishing system, WAIS, and also founded the Internet Archive — and complete a full day of ONACamp, intensive digital journalism training courtesy of the Online News Association.
The official mobile app for the conference has all of the latest schedule updates, speaker bios, dining recommendations, and more. The app was built by photographer/web developer Joshua Curry, a recent arrival to the Bay Area and former web editor for Charleston City Paper.
