Willamette Week Raises $128,640 on ‘Giving Tuesday’

Willamette Week‘s annual Give!Guide is off to a strong start. The paper raised $128,640 for Portland-area non-profits from 600 individual donors on Tuesday.

“[That’s] nearly three times what we raised this time last year,” says publisher Richard Meeker in an email:

This year 129 Portland-area nonprofits are participating, along with the Oregon Cultural Trust. WW’s G!G began with a party for 800 on Nov. 5 in Portland’s Left Bank Annex, where four Skidmore Prizes of $4,000 apiece were awarded, as well, to deserving folks (also under 36) who do great work for local nonprofits. As of today, some $600,000 has been donated by 3,000 donors, putting 2013’s G!G donations 24% ahead of last year at this time. Giving continues until midnight on December 31, 2013. Last year’s G!G raised approximately $1.97 million for local charities.

Willamette Week‘s Give!Guide, now in its 10th year, aims to encourage the giving habit in readers under the age of 36.
