Anthony Pignataro Joins Maui Time Weekly as New Editor

LAHAINA (Sept. 3, 2003)-Maui Time Weekly is pleased to welcome new editor Anthony Pignataro. The hiring exemplifies the paper’s continued commitment to create Maui County’s premier source for alternative news and entertainment.

Pignataro, a native of Whittier, Calif., is a graduate of the University of California’s Santa Barbara campus. He comes to Maui having spent the last seven years at the Costa Mesa-based alternative paper OC Weekly. He worked primarily as an investigative reporter specializing in political corruption but wrote on occasion for every section of the paper. In 2002, a three-year investigation by Pignataro and another OC Weekly reporter culminated in the indictment and conviction of the mayor of Huntington Beach on felony corruption charges.

“Pignataro’s investigative reporting skills, industry familiarity and sense of humor will strengthen our paper’s commitment to serious journalism,” said Maui Time Weekly publisher Tommy Russo. “From our move last year to a weekly to our recent admission into the prestigious Association of Alternative Newsweeklies (AAN), Pignataro’s hiring is just another sign of our continuing growth.”
