Wayne Kramer, noted guitarist, songwriter and film and television composer will speak about the city of Detroit, music and community activism at the AAN Convention in Detroit.
Kramer, considered a pioneer of both punk rock and heavy metal, has also involved himself in social movements for many years.
While a guitarist for MC5, Kramer formed the White Panther Party, advocating for racial and economic equality during the Vietnam War. Kramer’s efforts made him a target for the FBI’s COINTELPRO program.
He also worked with fellow guitarist Tom Morello for the Axis of Justice music and activism tours and appeared at an anti-war protest concert during the 2008 Democratic National Convention with Rage Against the Machine.
Recently, he and songwriter Billy Bragg created the non-profit organization Jail Guitar Doors USA, with the goal of helping rehabilitate prison inmates by teaching them non-violent communication skills.
You can join Kramer for a fireside chat on Friday, June 8 at 3:15 p.m. by registering for the Convention today.
