SAN PEDRO, Calif. — May 2, 2005 — Liberty Hill Day Book & Media Fair will take place Sunday, May 15th, 2005, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Croatian Cultural Center at 510 West 7th Street in San Pedro, Calif.
who: Random Lengths News, the Harbor Area’s only locally owned and operated independent newspaper, is sponsoring a Liberty Hill Day — Book and Media Fair. The event is co-sponsored by the Harry Bridges Institute and the South Bay Chapter of the ACLU.
what: Liberty Hill Day — On May 15, 1923, Upton Sinclair was arrested for reading aloud from the Bill of Rights, thus galvanizing the Labor Movement and focusing the world’s attention on San Pedro.
The Random Lengths News Book and Media Fair will feature author talks and book signings by Dr. Michio Kaku, the world acclaimed physicist and author of “Parallel Worlds”; John Ross, an international journalist and author of “Murdered by Capitalism: A Memoir of 150 Years of Life and Death on the American Left,” published by Nation Books; and Dennis Kucinich, the 2004 Democratic Presidential long shot and author of “A Prayer for America.”
In addition to the author appearances, The RLN Book and Media Fair will celebrate the political written word with a selection of books, art cards and other media for sale during this unique event. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the South Bay Chapter of the ACLU and the Harry Bridges Institute. Downtown Subs will be selling food and refreshments. Admission is free.
