Kick the New Year into high gear with your free alternative weekly paper January 20 as we celebrate 20 years of keepin’ it real with a gallery night benefitting another infamous 20-year-old: Blue Star Contemporary Art Center. During the event, party guests can bid on 20 of the Current’s best covers from two decades of San Antonio’s people, politics, and scandals. Bacardi and Budweiser will tend bar, Mina & Dimi’s will serve treats from their Greek kitchen, and DJ Deepfeel will provide the music. Courtesy of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, the Spurs game will be broadcast on a big screen, and 20th-anniversary Current swag will be given away all evening.

How do you top free music, drinks, souvenirs, and food in one of the city’s most exciting arts venues? With 20 years of Current covers — including such highlights and lowlights as C.A. Stubbs, the Dillodome controversy, La Sandra, a young Phil Hardberger, and, of course, the Spurs — all for sale in a silent auction benefitting Blue Star. Several covers come with valuable extras, including a Bud Light Fender Guitar neon light, a signed Missions baseball jersey, autographs, collectible rodeo posters, Spurs memorabilia, gift certificates, and more. Net proceeds will support Blue Star, a non-profit contemporary art gallery, famous for the First Friday event that draws thousands of revelers to downtown each month.
