Jen Malkin has been promoted to Advertising Director of the Santa Barbara Independent, a move to streamline and improve sales and responsive marketing.
An important first step is trimming her former title — Advertising Director: Marketing/PR, Production — to, simply, Sales and Marketing Director.
The new title marks a change from a broad range of former responsibilities to a focused, back-to-the-basics approach: one which will allow Malkin to directly assist and lead our award-winning, veteran team of Client Representatives to maximize opportunity in an emerging media landscape.
As a result, the notoriously energetic Malkin will step away from some of her past obligations and responsibilities not directly sales and marketing related. The diverse range of marketing programs the Independent provides its clients — our flagship newspaper, the county’s largest news website, our group-buying deals program inDeals, and our three-times-a-week email newsletter, the IndyInsider — will now benefit from this increased attention.
Client Representative, Camille Cimini-Fruin, a 22-year-Independent veteran, says she “is thrilled and excited for Jen, and I’m sure she will continue to help us and our clients get the best out of what the Independent has to offer.”
Malkin began working for the Santa Barbara Independent in 2003 as a sales and marketing coordinator. She was promoted to Ad Director in 2008, and missed a few days last year to enjoy the birth of Alfonso Edward Grillo with her partner Michael Grillo.
