Burlington, Vt. – Seven Days, Vermont’s free, independent weekly newspaper, has added five talented professionals to its editorial, sales and digital departments:
Matthew Roy, News Editor
Matthew comes to Seven Days with more than 25 years of experience as a daily newspaper reporter and editor. A New England native, he got his start in journalism at the Glens Falls, N.Y.-based Post-Star and the Daily Gazette in Schenectady. Prior to joining Seven Days, he was an editor at the Norfolk-based Virginian-Pilot, where he led the Virginia Beach editorial team and produced high-profile stories including features and multimedia packages. Now Matthew manages the five-person Seven Days news team.
Andrea Suozzo, Digital Editor
Andrea is an award-winning reporter who specializes in all things digital. A Middlebury College graduate, she previously worked for VTDigger as a freelance writer and the Addison County Independent as an online editor, reporter and online producer. At Seven Days, Andrea manages the social media channels, creates data visualizations and multimedia elements that accompany articles online and compiles the Daily 7 — a daily email newsletter featuring the top seven stories of the day.
Neel Tandan, Digital Production Specialist
Neel is a native Vermonter with a degree in English from the University of Vermont and a master’s degree from the Medill School of Journalism. He spent a year at Vermont Public Radio as an editorial assistant helping to expand coverage of VPR’s local news. He also worked for Vermont Business Magazine as the editor and chief content producer for VBM’s NextUp Magazine. At Seven Days, Neel is responsible for turning all of the company’s print products — Seven Days, BTV, Kids VT, What’s Good and 7 Nights — into digital form.
Hannah Palmer Egan, Food Writer
Hannah is a native Vermonter who has lived all over the country — most recently in Brooklyn, N.Y. During her time in the city, she wrote restaurant reviews and investigative features, blogged and covered national news for the Village Voice, Vice Magazine and the NY Daily News. At Seven Days, Hannah writes food features and news and reports on the state’s burgeoning beer, wine and cider scene.
Kristen Hutter, Sales and Marketing Assistant
Kristen is a recent graduate of Champlain College with a degree in business management. She previously worked for Boyden Valley Winery as a sales and marketing representative, leading tours and conducting tastings. In her new role, she aids the Seven Days sales and marketing team with daily tasks.
Da Capo Publishing Inc., dba Seven Days, was founded by Pamela Polston and Paula Routly in 1995. In addition to its five free publications, the company also produces two annual events: Vermont Restaurant Week and the Vermont Tech Jam, a job fair and tech expo.
In 2000, the Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce selected then-5-year-old Seven Days as Business of the Year. Eight years later, the Burlington Business Association did the same, citing the company’s exemplary business practices, contributions to the community and promotion of a positive image for Burlington, as well as business success. In 2013, Editor & Publisher selected Seven Days for inclusion in its annual feature “10 Newspapers That Do It Right.â€
