2013 AAN Awards Entry Deadline is Feb. 15

The 2013 AAN Awards will begin accepting entries in two weeks. The deadline to submit entries is Friday, February 15, 2013 at 11 pm (EST).

AAN is introducing two new categories for its 2013 contest. The Beat Reporting category will recognize breadth and depth of coverage on a specific area of interest (e.g., education, environment, sports) by a single author. The Breaking News category will recognize outstanding coverage of an unplanned breaking-news event or development.

Those two categories will replace Short-Form News Story, which has been eliminated. The Media Reporting category has also been eliminated.

The Wild Card topic is Election Coverage. This category will recognize outstanding coverage of national, state or local elections; issues with the electoral process (voter suppression, fraud, etc.); or in-depth coverage of a specific campaign.

In addition, the Cartoon category has been amended to reward the “best single cartoon” as opposed to requiring a 10-cartoon body of work.
