Short relocation makes room for growing staff.
To make room for an expanding staff, AAN headquarters moved today to an office in downtown Washington, D.C. that is almost twice as large as its previous space. After three years in a 1200 square foot suite in a modern office building on L Street, AAN relocated one block east to an older building three blocks from the White House and across the street from the Capital Hilton, host of the organization’s annual convention in 1998.
In its new office, AAN occupies the entire 4th floor of the Lafayette, a mixed-use office building that was home for 36 years to a private men’s club. Originally built in 1950 as a four-story structure, four more floors were added in 1986 when the building was renovated. The new floors are now leased as corporate executive apartments.
The size of AAN’s new office is 2109 square feet; the rental rate is $28.50 per square foot. Executive Director Richard Karpel said the rate is $5.50 per square foot less than the landlord is now asking for AAN’s old space on L Street.
According to Karpel, the five-person AAN staff has operated in cramped quarters since Marketing Director Adam Ebbin was hired two years ago. “We had no choice so we’ve done our best to make it work,” he said, explaining that AAN had to wait until its current lease expired before it could move to a new office.
AAN will add another employee next month to replace Administrative Assistant Jimmy Askew, who will be promoted to marketing assistant.
The new address is:
