Andy Dudzik named publisher same day Julia Goldberg becomes editor.

If anyone needed confirmation that City of Roses Publishing believes in promoting from within, they got what they were looking for Nov. 15. On that day, both the ad director/sales manager and associate editor of the Santa Fe Reporter were promoted to lead the City of Roses paper.

The in-house promotions were announced less than a month after former editor Audrey Van Buskirk left to head Seattle Weekly’s newsroom, and nearly three months after Barbara McDonald resigned for personal reasons as the Reporter’s publisher.

Andy Dudzik, 40, who had been serving as interim publisher since McDonald’s departure, was named as her permanent replacement, while Julia Goldberg, 32, took over as the paper’s editor.

“What we want to continue doing here is combine strong business sense with the best of alternative journalism,” says Dudzik, who has been with the paper since 1996. “Our mission is to really play a positive and active role in Santa Fe.”

Goldberg has been with the Reporter for three years, first as a reporter and later as associate editor.

“I worked very closely with Audrey Van Buskirk,” Goldberg says. “I really like the direction the paper was going under her direction.”

City of Roses is a three-paper chain owned by the management of Portland, Ore.-based Willamette Week. The company bought Boise Weekly earlier this year.
