FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BOSTON and DALLAS – May 20, 2003 – The People2People (P2P) Group/Tele-Publishing International, the world’s largest provider of “voice personals†and integrated relationships services to media companies, and Match.com, a global leader in subscription-based online dating, announced today a long-term partnership under the terms of which Match.com will power online personals for nearly 1,000 of P2P affiliate newspapers and other media clients.
These co-branded sites, which are tailored to audience demographics and interests, will allow users to post detailed personal profiles with photos and search for matches among the millions of singles using Match.com and P2P personals today.
The companies have developed technology that will allow users to seamlessly have their ads visible both online and in traditional print media, reinforcing the traditional print personals for singles using most of the affiliate co-branded sites. Existing members of these individual papers’ personals service will have the opportunity to transition into this new co-branded service. This partnership will provide P2P’s media clients with the opportunity to offer their single readers superior matching functionality, comprehensive customer service, and a robust pool of potential dates and romantic partners. Leveraging the media partner’s audience, the P2P/Match.com service will provide incremental revenue opportunities based on the enhanced user conversion and retention incentives associated with a larger pool of available singles and will be accessed via every interactive media, including computers and mobile telephones.
People2People is one of the Phoenix Media/Communications Group companies, publishers of the Boston Phoenix, Providence Phoenix and the Portland Phoenix. It has been at the forefront of the newspaper voice personals industry since it invented the product in 1989, and was among the first to offer online personals marketed through alternative newspapers
“Our goal is to provide the most compelling and complete array of dating services, especially to those who use them the most, typically through their weekly arts and entertainment newspapers.†said David Dinnage, President of the People2People Group, “The technology-savvy readers of the alternative papers will take maximum advantage of the synergies between the Match.com technologies and our own, and will extend the power and reach of both of our products creating a whole that is truly greater than the sum of its parts. The new service works in conjunction with, rather than against the print personals, and will maintain voice revenue while growing the online revenue.â€
“We are excited about partnering with People2People , and powering personals for their portfolio of well-respected media clients,†said Tim Sullivan, president of Match.com. “Singles have traditionally turned to newspapers for personal ads, and this relationship will allow Match.com to reach out to readers of top-tier daily and alternative publications in markets across the country.â€
