What: BEFORE THE MUSIC DIES – B4MD – is the electrifying documentary that exposes the music industry’s abandonment of artists and fans in its single-minded pursuit of corporate profits. After premiering at the SXSW Film Festival last spring, the film has amassed critical acclaim at festivals from Edinburgh to Austin.
In September 2006, Independent filmmakers Andrew Shapter and Joel Rasmussen teamed with Bside Entertainment to create a grassroots strategy to the marketing and distribution of B4MD. With the goal of allowing the most music fans to see B4MD while avoiding the exorbitant marketing costs that usually strip independent filmmakers of any profit, this team avoided the suffocating Hollywood machinery.
Philadelphia Weekly, your source for where to go and what to do in Philly, joined this grassroots coalition to bring B4MD to Philadelphia’s music fans at the Trocadero Theatre.
Why: B4MD presents information that is vital for every music lover. The average fan does not even know how much musical diversity, quality, and innovation they are missing due to the music industry’s tight control of almost all outlets. B4MD exposes this entertainment cartel, as the Austin Chronicle said, in “a call for revolt.” PW and the Troc love independent music + Philly and are excited to bring B4MD and its message to Philadelphia’s music fans.
