Save the Date: TrAANsformers Invade L.A. on Sept. 20

On Sept. 20, the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies will host a cocktail reception for film-industry clients in Los Angeles. The theme will be “TrAANsformers,” after the hit movie Transformers now in theaters.

This marks the second annual AAN-sponsored event for film clients in Los Angeles. At last year’s “AANtourage,” partygoers dined on oysters, sushi, crudité and cupcakes. The impressive lineup of door prizes donated by AAN members included a 50-inch Panasonic Widescreen Plasma HDTV, a trip to Maui, a Cabo San Lucas vacation, and South-by-Southwest All-Access Platinum Passes.

In a post-reception survey of AAN members, nearly all respondents agreed that AANtourage was a success.

“I found this to be a terrific way to interact with the agencies and studio folk,” says Marty Griswold, sales and marketing director for The Stranger. “Overall I thought this was a huge success and a great way for AAN to be involved in promoting business for the papers it represents.”

Feedback from the film representatives was equally positive.

“Nobody does these events for our industry anymore,” says Dan Cox of S. Callan Advertising. “The party was great — much better than ShoWest, which is oversaturated by people trying to get our attention.”

Members of the AAN marketing committee are in the midst of planning the specifics of “TrAANsformers.” In addition to hors d’ouvres, an open bar and entertainment, party-goers will again have the opportunity to win high-end door prizes donated by AAN members. Each paper that contributes a prize will receive additional branded recognition at the party.

Each AAN member may send a maximum of two representatives, and pre-registration is required. For more information or to reserve a spot, contact Roxanne Cooper at rcooper (at) aan.org or 202-289-8484.
