Style Weekly published its first ‘Comic Strip Issue’ in which the Richmond, Va. alt-weekly asked local cartoonists to submit comics about their city. In response, readers sent in “a healthy stack” of submissions, fourteen of which where featured in a recent issue of the paper. A majority of the submissions were from cartoonists that had previously been unpublished.
“The reader reaction to the special ‘Comic Strip Issue’ was overwhelmingly favorable,” said arts & culture editor Don Harrison in an email. “Our online numbers showed that the comic section was the most viewed content in Style that week. And the issue got noticed on comic-related blogs out of town as well.”
