The Independent Weekly (N.C.) won 12 awards from the North Carolina Press Association, including six first-place honors, at a ceremony Feb. 17.
An in-depth piece on North Carolina’s eugenics program, a profile of a former bank robber and a probe into local civilian police review boards were among the award-winning stories.
The paper also won for arts & entertainment reporting, columns, appearance and design, news enterprise, criticism, photography and video.
The Independent Weekly tied with the Smoky Mountain News for the most awards among nondaily newspapers with circulation over 10,000.
