Joe Tone has been tapped as editor of the Dallas Observer, where he will replace Mark Donald, who announced his resignation on Monday.
Tone was previously the editor of The Pitch in Kansas City, a former Village Voice Media publication. VVM sold The Pitch two weeks ago, and Tone said at the time that he would remain within the VVM family of papers, where he has extensive experience:
Tone brings a broad mix of reporting, editing and web experience to the post. He previously worked as the web editor for VVM’s Westword in Denver and managing editor at the Cleveland Scene under VVM ownership. He came to the company as a staff writer in Cleveland in 2004 from a reporting job at the Stockton Record.
In his farewell column, outgoing editor Mark Donald said, “I have not come to this moment easily but have wanted to pursue other career opportunities for some time now.”
“I will miss it all, the good and the bad of it, but I know I am leaving the paper in good hands,” he added.
