Effective September 29, 2011, our longtime Sales Management team member Tom Morey will be retiring from the Santa Barbara Independent.

Tom has been involved with the progression of the paper for over 22 years. He started his career here as a classified display representative. After successfully conquering that category, he moved on to the bigger sales of ROP ads.

Tom became an instant successs, as we all knew he would. Tom has the great quality of treating everyone of his clients as they are the most important client he has. Tom, as an artist, took to the arts community of Santa Barbara and developed long standing relationships with all these organizations. These organizations are still clients to this day.

Tom then moved up to overseeing the sales department. He brought his strong organization skills as well as his creative side to the department. He led by example and was always there to give a kind word or piece of advice on who you should hit up to make more money.

Tom has and always will love the Indy and the alternative news weekly world. He bleeds ink.

Tom is a wonderful colleague and a person that this industry will surely miss. We appreciate the 22 years we were fortunate enough to work with Tom; a true treasure to us all.

Tom Morey is moving on to life after Indy, but we do expect him to show up and give us all some pointers on selling his clients.
