Planet Jackson Hole Inc. and Copperfield Publishing Inc. are pleased to announce the
acquisition of the JH Weekly, its websites and related publications by Copperfield, the
publisher of the Salt Lake City Weekly newspaper and Devour Utah magazine.
The transaction closed Wednesday, Dec. 31. Details were not announced.
Mary Grossman, founder, owner and publisher of JH Weekly, said the sale brings to a
close an exciting and challenging time for her and her husband Judd, who is also an
owner.
“In 2002 we started the paper out of thin air and successfully nurtured it through some
tough times, but it’s time for someone else to take it to the next level. We’re excited to see
it grow.”
“We’re leaving The Planet in the very capable hands of Copperfield Publishing and our
existing employees. We couldn’t have wished for a better outcome.”
John Saltas, president and CEO of Copperfield, said no major changes are planned other
than to lend his company’s alternative weekly expertise to the Jackson operation.
“My uncle was a sheepherder on the Idaho side of the Tetons, so I’ve been stunned by the
beauty of the Jackson area since I was very young. Salt Lake City is also beautiful and
like Jackson Hole has many recreational opportunities on one side and so many growth
and environmental challenges on the other. We consider this a partnership of
communities and we look forward to sharing the Jackson experience with our Salt Lake
City readers and vice-versa.â€
The Grossmans plan to remain in Jackson Hole with specific plans uncertain. “I’m ready
to go on to my next adventure, possibly working on freedom of expression issues,” Mary
Grossman said.
Planet Jackson Hole was represented in the transaction by Ken Amundson, senior
associate for the Western United States for the W.B. Grimes media brokerage firm.
