Three alt-weekly food writers — and one alt-weekly videographer — were named winners of the 2011 James Beard Foundation Awards on Friday night.
Writers for Miami New Times, Philadelphia City Paper, and Westword have been named as Sigma Delta Chi Award honorees by the national Society of Professional Journalists.

Winners of the contest, which honors "journalistic excellence and achievement in print and electronic news media in Atlantic Canada," will be announced on May 7.
