Jamila Kahlil Tops National Candidates to Become New Director of Advertising for the Colorado Springs Independent

Fran Zankowski, CEO of the Colorado Springs Independent, announced today that Jamila Khalil has been named Director of Advertising of The Independent as the Colorado Springs based alternative news weekly continues to flourish and grow its operation. In her new role, she will oversee all aspects of advertiser development, coaching and development for Colorado Springs Independent account executives. Additional changes to the management team were made as part of the papers’ strategic direction.

Jamila has more than 25 years sales and sales management experience.

Prior to joining The Independent, Khalil was Sales Manager of the Fayetteville Observer a privately held publication of the Fayetteville Publishing Co., Inc. a newspaper publisher in North Carolina. Khalil’s extensive sales management experience with alternatives and daily newspapers include, Anchorage Daily News, Los Angeles Daily News and the Investor’s Business Daily.

To further streamline daily operations of the Independent, Zankowski also announced today that 3-year Indy veteran Amanda Lundgren, will take on all aspects of distribution across 900+ locations, in addition to her on-going responsibilities under the title of Assistant Publisher. Lundgren will report directly to John Weiss, Publisher of the Colorado Springs Independent.

In addition to the executive level changes, the Indy will also continue its growth and reorganization of the workforce at the Colorado Springs Independent.
