The Current, San Antonio’s award-winning weekly newspaper, unveils new print and web editions this week. Fresh off its 20th anniversary, the community paper has given its newsprint layout and banner a clean contemporary look, and added enticing new features such as the Jonesin’ Crossword, technology and television reviews, and an advice column, Dear Uncle Mat. Readers will still find their favorite attractions in the Current’s pages, including its critically acclaimed arts coverage; local music profiles; restaurant, CD, video-game, and film reviews; and investigative (plus joyously snarky) news. And the Current still features the most comprehensive live-music and events calendar in town, complete with critics’ picks and special categories for Gay & Lesbian and kid-friendly happenings.

The Current is all-new on the web, too, at www.sacurrent.com, where we’re inviting our readers to join us in creating relevant local coverage through our new Chisme Libre forums, which cover everything from music to politics. The blog has been reborn as Curblog! “The blog that bites back,” and our online restaurant and events calendar have been expanded and updated.

“Not only is the this design completely freaky sweet (industry standard), on the backend we have positioned the Current to deliver our content and flavor for the digital age,” said publisher Chris Sexson.

The Current features local writers and critics covering politics, arts, music, food & drink, and every other crucial Alamo City topic. Every week in our pages you’ll find Free Will Astrology, Ted Rall, ¡Ask a Mexican!, Mex in Manhattan, and more of your favorite pop-culture fixes, too.

“The Current will continue to provide the fearless, critical news and arts coverage our readers expect,” said editor Elaine Wolff, “with a few more guilty pleasures thrown in. The new design makes us easier to read, but not necessarily easier to swallow — just the way our readers like it.”

The Current is owned by Times-Shamrock Communications. It is published weekly on Wednesdays and distributed for free at more than 800 locations throughout San Antonio and Bexar County, including Whole Foods, Starbucks, and local coffee shops and bars.
