Who’d have ever thunk it – The Colorado Springs Independent, the Pikes Peak region’s spunky award-winning newsweekly — is turning ten with a HUGE birthday bash Friday August 8 in Pioneer’s Park, downtown, right across from the paper’s new office building.
The free fete will feature:
* 15 bands on two stages, including Gripped, Spider Murphy, Little London Winds, Colorado Springs Conservatory Jazz Ensemble, Malcolm Lucard & Irrational Exuberance, and Magic Dave & the New Mules.
* Beer Gardens featuring Bristol beers and ales, with all proceeds going to the Independence Community Fund which works to nurture innovative community building projects in the Pikes Peak region.
*A Volunteer Fair held in conjunction with The Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce Non-Profit Partnership featuring how you can get involved with more than 70 local non-profits.
*80 commercial booths offering up almost everything you can think of.
* Kids activities provided by Joy Rides, Girl Scouts, Jim Jackson’s Firehouse Circus and Toons.
*Food from a plethora of local restaurants as well as a farmers’ market
*Workshops on how to submit freelance news and arts stories, listings as well as photographs and illustrations to the Independent
*Name our new building contest. Come up with the best entry, and you’ll win a massage plus a fine dinner. Current frontrunners include: BOB (for Big Old Building) and Bill (short for Building.)
During the celebration, win tickets to the John Mayall concert to benefit CASA or buy tickets to this all ages show starting at 9 PM right after our celebration.
