AAN Launches Jobs Database Powered by CareerCast

The Association of Alternative Newsmedia (AAN), the nation’s premier network of alt-weeklies and local non-mainstream publications, has launched a new service for its members: an online database of job openings from all over the country.

CareerCast—a division of Adicio, a leading provider of online classified advertising software—will power the job board. The career center on AAN’s website will house jobs aggregated from all of Adicio’s clients, including newspapers, magazines, television stations and niche websites across the U.S. and Canada. In addition to a targeted, searchable archive of open positions, the platform includes a resume builder, job-hunting tips and a salary comparison tool.

“CareerCast’s advanced technology offers us a state-of-the-art career center, and their highly skilled sales force presents new revenue opportunities for our organization, ” says AAN Executive Director Tiffany Shackelford. “Our member papers can take advantage of this initiative by providing their online visitors with thousands of great jobs and cutting-edge career content.”

Print classified ads, once the cash cow of the altweekly industry, have declined in value in recent years. Now, readers look for classified ads and job openings where they manage the rest of their lives: online. AAN’s partnership with Adicio capitalizes on this trend and benefits of AAN’s members, who will see their sales figures increase by using CareerCast’s RevManage program to outsource marketing and customer support.

“We are excited to manage all aspects of AAN’s job board and career center and offer online classifieds to employers on their behalf,” says Adicio Chief Alliance Officer Tony Lee. “RevManage can help AAN and its members effectively grow their recruitment advertising sales to new levels.”

The clearinghouse will be a welcome resource for AAN publications that don’t host or maintain jobs boards on their own websites, and readers across the nation will benefit from a central locus of career opportunities. Altweeklies have long been a jobseeker’s first stop, and this database will build on that tradition with the combined power of AAN’s network and the ease of digital search tools.
