“Daily Must Be Part of What We Do”

In a blog post recounting City Newspaper‘s convention experience in Toronto, publisher Mary Anna Towler contemplates the future of weekly newspapers:

Many of us went into weekly journalism because we didn’t like daily journalism: the deadlines left too little time do thoughtful, step-back-and-look-for-context pieces. Now, “daily” must be part of what we do. There’s plenty of teeth gnashing about it; online, after all, doesn’t provide as much revenue as print does, so we’re all trying to figure out how to do more work with the same staff without letting “thoughtful, context” work suffer.
