Eugene – Eugene Weekly has entered a strategic alliance with Ducks Illustrated to publish, distribute, and sell advertising for the 20-issue college sports publication.
Ducks Illustrated, formerly The Fighting Duck Review and Inside Ducks Sports, was launched in 1992 to provided extensive coverage of the University of Oregon Duck teams and athletic program.
Ducks Illustrated will be printed inside Eugene Weekly to enjoy the alt’s 40,000 circulation and 84,000 readership. The publication is scheduled every week during the fall football season, and once a month from December through May. 5,000 additional copies of Ducks Illustrated will be distributed at all University of Oregon Duck home football games. Inaugural issue is August 28.
Eugene Weekly views itself as not just a vehicle of progressive journalism, art, and entertainment, but as a serious marketing alternative to the daily. Under this premise, the paper sees the partnership with Ducks Illustrated as its evolution to becoming a provider of niche publications, each offering Eugene more in-depth coverage than the daily, on such topics as politics, social issues, music, movies, and now Duck athletics.
