E.W. Scripps Co. Folds Metro Pulse in Knoxville

Metro Pulse has been shut down by the E.W. Scripps Co. effective immediately. Employees were notified today that this week’s issue will be the paper’s last.

Based in Knoxville, Tenn., Metro Pulse began publishing in 1991 and was acquired by Scripps subsidiary Knoxville News Sentinel Media Group in 2007.

Updated 10/16: “Tennessee’s alternative news scene is poorer today,” writes Nashville Scene‘s Steven Hale. “If you appreciate local journalism, and having more than one outlet for it, pour one out for the Pulse.”
