Illinois Times took home five awards Friday during the Illinois Press Association’s annual convention in Springfield.

The paper netted first place in its division for Government Beat Reporting thanks to a piece by staff writer Patrick Yeagle. Yeagle also claimed a fourth place and two third place awards for sports and news reporting.

Staff writer Rachel Wells won third place for enterprise reporting.
