New Indy Editor Is Chapel Hill Homeboy

Madison is an alt-weekly veteran

Only one person is happier than the staff of the Independent Weekly at the news of the appointment of David Madison as editor, says Publisher Sioux Watson.

“That person is his mama, who still lives in Chapel Hill, where he grew up, went to school and graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill,” Watson says. “She’s pleased because her son will be coming home after years of living out-of-state.”

Madison, who started reading the Independent Weekly while still in high school as an editor of the Chapel Hill High School paper, went on to become a staff writer, then editor at Boise Weekly, staff writer at the Salt Lake City Weekly and editor of its now-defunct sister paper, Mountain Times.

Most recently Madison has been a staff writer for Knoxville’s Metro Pulse and writer/producer for Jupiter Entertainment, producing documentaries for A&E Network, The History Channel and crime documentaries for City Confidential.

He begins his new job in early December.
