Only Three Weeks Left to Register for Columbia’s Journalism Career Expo

Registration is open for our annual Career Expo, to be held Sat. March 27, 2010 from 9 - 5 at Columbia University in New York City.

We know the industry is in flux. All the more reason to come meet promising new journalists from the class of 2010 at Columbia Journalism School. Our magazine concentrators have their sights set on alternative weekly journalism because they crave to report deeply and write long as well as juggle shorter stories, blog items, and put their multimedia storytelling skills to use.

Our grads have recently been hired at the Dallas Observer, the Twin Cities City Pages, the Riverfront Times, the Village Voice, the New Haven Advocate and the Long Island Press; we have alums at the San Francisco Bay Guardian, Washington City Paper, Jackson Free Press, Willamette Week, Metro Spirit, the Colorado Springs Independent, Eugene Weekly and others.

Even if you don’t have jobs right now, the Career Expo is a chance to meet candidates for positions you’ll have later. Or consider coming to demonstrate your commitment to journalism education. Our 400 graduate students are a diverse group with a wide range of language skills, life experience and journalistic interests. All of our students receive basic multimedia and social media training; our digital media concentrators attain expert-level skills.

In addition to our Master of Science in Journalism students, you will meet students in our Master of Arts in Journalism Program. These candidates are experienced journalists who are spending their year receiving specialized training in one of four areas: business, arts/culture, science/health or politics. You’ll also meet our students in the Stabile Center for Investigative Journalism; our Stabile students make use of computer-assisted reporting, records searches and in-depth enterprise techniques to produce major projects during their year here.
