The Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism released its annual State of the News Media report this week, and says that alt-weeklies showed “signs of business improvement” and made “noticeable efforts to move toward a digital future” in 2010.

The report also notes that circulation at the largest alt-weeklies held relatively steady in 2010 while the largest mainstream dailies saw modest declines.
