Southland Publishing to Launch New Monthly Magazine

PRESS RELEASE

SOUTHLAND PUBLISHING LAUNCHES NEW MAGAZINE: “NEW ANGELES MONTHLY,” DELIVERED TO HOMES AND SELECT LOCATIONS MAY 25-26, 2007

Los Angeles — April 4, 2007 — Southland Publishing announced today the launch of a new magazine, New Angeles Monthly.

The glossy/high bright stock magazine will make its debut with a June edition in late-May and will publish every month thereafter. Late last month Southland announced the launch of this magazine concept under another title but elected to change the name.

New Angeles Monthly will celebrate the intellectual and cultural “renaissance” of LA’s Eastside, from Hollywood through Silver Lake and Los Feliz and into the core of the newly revitalized Downtown and beyond. This is where new and established homeowners and businesses are working alongside arts and cultural organizations to create thriving communities with strong economic viability. These communities are the future of arts, entertainment and culture in Los Angeles.

As producers of the weekly newspapers CityBeat, ValleyBeat, Pasadena Weekly and monthly lifestyle magazines Arroyo and Verdugo, Southland Publishing has identified a void in LA’s media market. “We know through our market research that there is a real need for a publication like this,” said Southland Publishing’s Vice President of Sales Charles Gerencser, who will serve as the magazine’s publisher.

The initial press run of New Angeles Monthly will be 30,000 copies monthly, of which 17,500 copies will be direct-mailed to households with an average household income of $100,000 or more in the following areas: Hancock Park (90004 & 90020), Hollywood Hills (90068), Los Feliz (90027), Koreatown (90005), the Wilshire Blvd. Corridor (90010 & 90036), Atwater (90039), Echo Park (90026) and Silver Lake (90026). These are influential households directly affected by the cultural renaissance on the Eastside. The remaining 12,500 copies will be targeted through direct distribution to influential Downtown residents (living in 90012-15, 17 & 21) in new and reuse condo and loft buildings. In addition, there will be select local retail and venue distribution (restaurants, businesses, etc.).

Nikki Bazar will serve as editor of New Angeles Monthly. Currently editor of Verdugo Monthly, Ms. Bazar’s previous editorial endeavors include freelance writing for Pasadena Weekly. “This publication will aim to embody the cultivated and innovative spirit of Los Angeles Eastsiders through impassioned and independent coverage of the area’s arts, entertainment and businesses,” she said.

The art and production team that produces CityBeat and ValleyBeat newspapers will also work on New Angeles Monthly. This team is led by Art Director Dana Collins, the current and founding art director of CityBeat and ValleyBeat. Mr. Collins’ previous efforts include work at LA Weekly and Denver’s Westword.

Southland Publishing is a fast-growing integrated media company that publishes five weekly newspapers: Los Angeles CityBeat/ValleyBeat, Pasadena Weekly, Ventura County Reporter, San Diego CityBeat and Inland Empire Weekly. Southland also publishes four monthly lifestyle publications: Verdugo (Glendale/Burbank), Arroyo (Pasadena/San Gabriel), Ventana (Ventura County) and Southern California Life After 50, a family magazine for 50+ Californians. In addition to its physical magazines, Southland also produces ten publication-related websites.
