PHOENIX, AZ — The Village Voice Media Holdings, LLC family of companies, which includes 14 metro-area alt-weekly print publications and 20 online properties, today announced the launch of the location-based Happy Hours mobile application. The publications partnered with GoTime, the nation’s most comprehensive happy hour guide, to create the free app. Available on both the iPhone and in the Android Marketplace, the Happy Hours app serves as a database for more than 15,000 happy hours in 30 cities across the country. Users can search happy hours by name, location, time and even type of cuisine, all within one location-aware mobile application.
The happy hour listings tap into reviews and editorial content that runs across the dining, entertainment and nightlife coverage in the alt-weekly publications. The publications have also leaned on the strong merchant-to-merchant relationships that have been fostered through the Voice Local Network (VLN), the local sales platform that connects advertisers with the VVMH family of alt-weekly publications and other online publishers that fit into similar content and demographic categories. In conjunction with the publications, VLN has access to important happy hour details on the best clubs, bars, lounges and dives in all 30 locations.
“We want to be everywhere our readers are, and that’s out on the town, anywhere in the country,” said Scott Tobias, VVMH’s president and COO. “The Happy Hours app adds another dimension to the coverage and the advertiser relationships VVMH and these publications have established, one that taps into the content we’ve been publishing for years and that listens to what our merchants are saying about the best deals out there today. We own the night — and this app really delivers on that.”
“Village Voice Media Holdings and its family of alt-weekly publications is a perfect partner to help the Happy Hours app go national,” said Jeff Khadavi, co-founder of GoTime. “From the editorial work to advertising deals, the VVMH brand is all about being relevant for a young, hip crowd that likes to go out and have a good time. With this app, we’re handing a location-based ticket to cheaper drinks and better vibes all over the country — all for free. The market has been waiting for someone to aggregate an affordable nightlife experience, and we think we’ve delivered that and a lot more by doing a national launch with one of the most respected nightlife platforms around.”
The Happy Hours iPhone app will be available in the following 30 cities: Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Boston, Broward-Palm Beach, Charlotte, Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New Orleans, New York, Orange County, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Portland, San Antonio, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, St. Louis, Tampa, Washington DC.
