Webinar: Putting a Face on Polling Data

Public opinion surveys offer authoritative data on social or cultural issues, but humanizing data with personal stories can result in compelling portraits of social phenomena. This webinar will teach you how to use publicly available research as a launching point for reporting that puts a face on the poll findings, a powerful tool in telling memorable stories that go far beyond the numbers. As an example, the Washington Post’s Krissah Thompson will describe her reporting on a series about black women in America. This webinar is produced in partnership of the American Association for Public Opinion Research.

Participants will learn:

  • Basics of poll reporting

  • Where to locate reliable survey data

  • How to identify potential sources to represent findings

  • How to tie elements of individual stories to survey data

  • Tips on clear poll writing and how to avoid common pitfalls
