Worcester Magazine Celebrates 30th with Biggest Issue Ever!

Not to mention a massive party next weekend

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 26, 2006, Worcester, MA – In a personal appearance last night at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass., former President Bill Clinton helped Central Massachusetts alt weekly Worcester Magazine celebrate today’s release of its 30th Anniversary gala issue – the largest in magazine history!

The former President, speaking with Senator Ted Kennedy at a rally in support of the Democratic ticket for governor and lieutenant governor, did not actually mention the magazine. However, at 136 pages, chock full with special editorial and congratulatory messages from advertisers old and new, the success of the issue created a sensation across the region.

“According to my records, no other American alt-weekly in history has ever crossed the three-figure threshold,” said Jeff Lawrence, founder and president of Boston’s alternative paper Weekly Dig, which just celebrated the publication of its biggest issue ever at 124 pages.

“Did he reach 124 pages? How cute,” commented Worcester Magazine Publisher Diane Lieberman. “Not quite as big as ours, but c’est la vie.”

With 30 years of groundbreaking journalism, hard news, biting commentary, and deeply felt arts coverage to draw from, the Worcester Magazine staff compiled a massive historical document sure to reinvent the anniversary issue form. More will be revealed next week, when the magazine hosts a blowout 30th anniversary party at the White Eagle Social Club, one of Worcester’s more colorful venues. “Any place that serves a ice-cold draft PBR to a crowd of regulars at 9:30 a.m. suits us to a ‘T’,” said Editor Michael Warshaw. “I think I’ll have one now.”
