Best Disclosure Ever? Baltimore City Paper Reporter Bought Pot From Story Subject

In case you missed this on Romenesko last week, Baltimore City Paper reporter Van Smith’s March 23 article on a local record store owner who pleaded guilty to “possession with intent to distribute cocaine, hydrocodone, and oxycodone,” included this disclosure:

“I sold weed for years,” Neu says—something that this writer, as a patron of Reptilian Records and acquaintance of Chris X’s, had known, having purchased small quantities of marijuana at the store more than 10 years ago while working as a freelance journalist and bartender.

The disclosure prompted an inquiry by Romenesko, to which Smith replied, “Disclosure was the only thing to do, and let the chips fall where they may – including, I suppose, a Romenesko mention. Believe me, I’m not as Gonzo as this may make me seem.”
